Thursday Update

Another scan was performed today and I think it completes the testing phase. The results should be back tomorrow and will hopefully complete the picture of the enemy. I have a feeling that things can change at any moment, so sorry if I’m publishing corrections in the future!

After an energetic and active day yesterday, Peter has been pretty flat today. Just worn out I hope. He just painted a turtle on Emily’s hand (staff member) and she reported some smiles. His bed reminds me of one of those coin operated games with the three-prong claw that picks up a stuffed animal or other prize (after you’ve inserted $30 of quarters, of course). He definitely has lots of new stuffed animal friends.

I took this picture last night and Peter obliged me with his camera smile. It’s not a very good picture, but I wanted to get a recent one posted.

  2. Peter,
This is one of your cousins, Henrik. It’s doesn’t sound like fun to be in the hospital. My baby sister, Adeline, and I hope you get better soon. I saw you were holding Spiderman in the picture. He’s one of my favorite superheroes. That’s cool that you like him, too. Keep him close. I bet he’ll help take care of you.
    Love, Henry

    Peter and family,
Our thoughts have been with you since we found out and will continue to be with you throughout this ordeal. Sounds like Peter has a great support system to help him in this fight. You are all in our prayers.

It looks like you have lots of fun toys to play with. The Twins are playing right now…I’ll bet you’re watching the game at the same time we are. Go Twins! Looks like they’ll win this one. We got to watch Joe Mauer play when the Brainerd Warriors were in the State Tournament
a few years ago. He gets better every year, just like you will with hockey. Take care, buddy!

  17. Ty, Erika, Peter and family,
We just heard about Peter. Just wanted to let you know we are praying for all of you… Peter for a speedy and complete recovery, Ty and Erika for the strength and faith for the days ahead. Our children are a special blessing to us. You have many prayers coming from all your family, friends and the community. May you find comfort in this. Hats off to Uncle Matt on a nice web page. It is a great way to communicate!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

  18. Hi Peter,

I don’t know if you remember me, but I walked with you down the aisle at Uncle Matt and Auntie G’s wedding. I also played a few video games with you at that big video place. Mommy told me you were sick and in the hospital. I was very sad to hear that. Tonight when we said our prayers, we said a special one for you and your family. We also asked our church prayer network to keep you in their prayers and thoughts as well. Your Uncle Matt has told me how much you like hockey and baseball. I like baseball but I don’t know how to play hockey. Uncle Matt says your pretty tough- and tough guys always win. When you win this fight, can you teach me to play hockey too?
    Your in my prayers,
    Evan Solomon

  19. To Peter and his family…
My name is Michelle Ugarte and I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am apart of the NB support group and I saw an e-mail that went out about your family. We all can empathise with what you and your family are going through right now because we have all been there. I would like to tell you that no matter how alone you may feel in this battle, just remember that there are people all over the country who are praying for you and your family. You can beat this horrible disease and many people have. My daughter is proof of that. She was diagnosed at 18 months with stage 3 NB and at that time in her life we thought it was over. Little did we know that the doctors had a plan to beat it and they did beat it and she was off chemo in 6 months. She has been “NED” for a year and a half now. Just keep your spirits up and your heads high because you can and will beat it! People always asked us how we kept a good face throughout the whole ordeal, and we always told everyone to look at Isabella’s smile on her face…. how can we be sad when she is as happy as ever. That is one of the keys to beating the disease…. stay strong and keep smiling. =)
    Have a wonderful day!
The Ugarte Family – Michelle, David, Isabella and our new addition to the family, Little David.

  20. Erika and Ty,

Just want to let you know that we can’t stop thinking about you guys. We are sending lots of prayers out there for you all.
Peter John is our first “god bless” of nightly prayers with Cassie as well.

    Love,
    The Jantzen’s

  21. Aloha Peter and Family all the way from Hawaii…. March 5, 2006 was the day our lives were changed much like your has been this past week. Ruth age 4 had a lump in her left neck area. One week later we found out about Neuroblastoma stage IV in her neck, chest, pelvis, adomen, bone marrow, front skull and right neck. We will keep you in our prayers. We were glad to read about your faith in Jesus. He is on your team and ours too. He will give you the strength to be a fighter of your lumps (thats what Ruth calls her neuroblastoma). Many people will come and help you through prayer and support. We have met so many people. Keep smiling, Keep praying and Keep fighting.

  22. Peteman,

It was great to see you tonight. I will be by in the morning to see you. Do you think I should bring Uncle Troy or Uncle Roy with me? I can’t decide. Grace and Lily are excited about the picture you are coloring for them. They can’t wait to hang it on the refrigerator! They are still learning to color inside the lines, but they hope you like the pictures they made for you. They send you lots of hugs and kisses!
    xoxoxo,
    Aunite Macer

p.s Murphey sends you a big wet kiss.

  23. Hi Peter, Mom, and Dad,

My friend Sara Hammer told me you have were recently diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma, so I wanted to write and say hi. I know how strange and scary and confusing things are for all of you right now because my family was in the same place when my daughter Carolyn was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma. That was three and a half years ago and she has been cancer free for three years!

Mom and Dad, I know that you’ve probably heard a lot of discouraging statistics about nb, but they are just numbers. Peter is ONE, and there is no reason to think he won’t be one the ones that beats this cancer! I know Peter will amaze you because all of our nb kids are amazing in their strength, courage, and wisdom.

When my daughter was diagnosed, I felt so frightened and alone. Please know that there are a lot of other parents that truly do know what you are going through and how you are feeling. If you ever need to talk, please feel free to send an email. I will be keeping up with Peter through this site and cheering him on, as I know many other nb families will be doing to!

Strength and love to you all,
Jennifer Click and Carolyn and Evan

  24. Dear Peter and Family,
I am so sorry to hear that you have had to step into this world. Although it has been 3 years, I can remember my first few weeks of this journey all to well. Like Peter, my daughter Sydney was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (stage IV) in June of 2003. She too had unfavorable histology and biology and was N-MYC amplified as well. She had neuroblastoma about as bad as it can be had but I am happy to tell you that today she is clear of disease, happy, and healthy.
The first weeks were the toughest for us but we soon found our own path. I know the pain that you all feel but I can tell you that it does go away. You may be asking if your life will ever be “normal” again and I can tell you first hand that it will never be the way that it was but it will develop into a new “normal.” You will become inspired by your child and you will learn things about yourself and your family that you never knew. In this sense, the new normal can be even better. You will get through this and you can be happy again. There is light at the end of this tunnel. If there is ever anything I can do please feel free to contact me. Remember, we have been in your shoes and we understand.
    With Hope,
    Mark (father to Sydney)

  25. Hi, you probably don’t know me but I know Mary from RHS. I just heard about your little guy Peter and want you to know that all my prayers are with you. It sure sounds like you have the right attitude going and that’s so very important. Keep positive thoughts and believe. Your son is beautiful and looks like he’s full of spirit. Hang in there. The Reyers (Jeff, Theresa, AJ, and Ben)

  26. Eigners,

What fun to see a picture of Peter!!! Uncle Matt – THANK YOU !! for the phenomenal job you have done in keeping all of us informed!! I am Jenni (daycare) Kelley’s Mom. I have a sister who lives in California who has also met Peter on occasion when she has been home in Minnesota visiting. I have shared Peter’s news with her and this site. This morning I had an e-mail from her informing me she has sent an e-mail to the Twins about Peter. Boy, wouldn’t it be great if one visited?!! Keep the strength up; sure is wonderful to hear from strangers with the same story!! You are always on our minds!

Peg and Ron (Papa and Monga)

  27. Hi Peter-

Glad to see a picture of you looking so snazzy in your jammies.

Last time Jim and I saw you, you were playing washer toss. We both thought you are a great washer tosser and that you are very smart because you were able to keep track of everyones score along with your score. Of course, you were way ahead in points. Jared saw you playing t-ball this summer at Baxter park and he told me “that Peter can really smash the ball. Just like Joe Maurer.” We’re praying that in no time at all you will be well and back playing washer toss and smashing the ball like JOE.

We heard some of the hockey boys brought you a stick yesterday. Very cool. Does your room have a net for you to practice your shot? Wouldn’t that be fun?

Hope you are feeling less tired today and that you are gaining strength from all the people that are pulling and praying for you.
    Jim, Laleen and Jared

  28. Dear Brave and Beautiful Peter,

We are all praying for the medicines to get rid of all the bad-guy cells. You are such a brave and strong boy! And your mommy and daddy are so strong too!

My little boy Erik had the same bad-guy cells a long time ago. He was like you, very strong and very smart. He fought them off, grew big and tall, played football and and became a snowboarding maniac! He liked school and aced college English AND got the highest score in his class on his AP calculus test! Warriors like you can do anything!

The best part is, he has only good memories of this big battle. He remembers the nice nurses and doctors and playrooms. He remembers trips and toys and lots of love and attention. He doesn’t remember one single yucky thing (which is very hard for even me to believe or understand). But that is the truth!

He will be playing with the kids who are going through the same thing you are at Camp Sunshine in Warrens, Wisconsin in October. It is an amazing place. I hope you will be feeling good enough to come. They have a huge water park, and so many fun things to do. Your family can stay in a fancy villa and drive around golf carts for a week, all for free! The people who own the Jellystone resort like to give brave boys like you a break from hospital stuff, and give mommy and daddy a chance to relax and talk to other parents as well.

You are surrounded by so many people who love and care for you, and now you have new Minnesota friends praying for you!

Much love and many many prayers,
    Donna Ludwinski
    Erik’s mom

  29. Peter and Family –

Peter I’m an old old friend of your Uncle Matt and I grew up playing hockey with Matt and your Uncle Troy as well. As this website shows, you have an incredible network of love and support cheering you on and sending love and prayers your way from every direction. I think people are given challenges because they can be beaten and the base of love and faith and optimism that you have around you is the most important ingredient to making that happen.

We wish you all support and faith and lots of prayer-you will be in ours every day!

Corey, Tonia, Johanna and Georgia Jorgenson

  30. Good Morning, bud! Well, it’s been one heck of a week, eh? But look at all the amazing support you have received … alot of which is now coming from complete strangers who are wishing you the best! It is GREAT to hear stories from people who have beat the odds…. it is these kind of stories that help us all feel better about your battle. I truly have no doubts that you will win against these bad guys! It’s been written time and time again about what an amazingly strong little guy you are. It’s soooo true, Peter…. you are a fighter! However…. I must share one funny bit of information with the whole world! 🙂 Once upon a time, when Peter was about 2 1/2 years old, he used to enjoy playing dress up at daycare. Although we do have hulk outfits and cowboy outfits…. Peter really liked to wear the pink princess dress, the yellow high heels, and the long blonde Barbie wig. It was quite the sight, as you can imagine! Someday when you are Brainerd’s star hockey player and homecoming king, we can share these memories with your friends!! Ha-ha! Just teasing ya, Peter! We love you no matter what you’re wearing!!!

It seems that my mom and my aunt in California are trying to arrange for a member of the MN Twins to pay you a visit! Hmmm…. you are becoming quite the celebrity! Monga didn’t even share this news with me – I just read it on her comment! (For those of you wondering who Monga is…. that is what my kids call their grandma – whenever she pays a visit during daycare hours, the daycare kids all run up to her shouting, “Hi Monga!”)

Peter- here is a little inspirational story that I read in a book last night – it made me think of you: It’s titled “DISCOURAGED??”

As I was walking home from work one day, I stopped to watch a local little league baseball game at a park near my home. As I sat down behind the bench on the first-base line, I asked one of the boys what the score was.
“We’re behind fourteen to nothing,” he answered with a smile.
“Really,” I said. “I have to say that you don’t look very discouraged.”
“Discouraged?” , the boy asked with a puzzled look on his face. “Why should we be discouraged? We haven’t even been up to bat yet!”

So, don’t be discouraged. Peter just needs to show these bad guys what he can do when it’s his turn to bat!!!!!

We raised our morning juice cups this morning in a toast to you, Peter. We wished for you a day of happy news and lots of fun! Keep smiling…. and we’ll keep praying!

    To Ty and Erika-
Your strength is amazing! We are glad to hear that the tests are perhaps complete. Now we can just all focus on his treatment plan… and the next stage of R-E-C-O-V-E-R-Y!! I miss you and your kids TREMENDOUSLY!

God did not promise days with out pain, laughter without sorrow, nor sun without rain. He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and a light for the way. May you feel the strength, the comfort and the light each day!

    Jenni and family

  31. Peter,

Casey and his Dad will say a prayer every night for you and for a very fast recovery and that will be better days for your Mom and Dad.

On a lighter note you are still famous amongst the Mittelstadt boys as “the boy that can pee halfway across the lake.”

    Good luck!!!

    The Mittelstadt Family

  32. Hi Peter,

We are going to come down to see you before Carl leaves for Boston tomorrow. If you feel good we’ll stop by tonight or we’ll see you tomorrow morning! We’ve got you another of those fun coloring books that Carolyn, Molly and Molly brought you. How is Spiderman doing? You have a great head of hockey hair in your picture! Looks like Warrior hockey hair. Did you watch the Twins last night? They played great again. See you later.

    Love and prayers

    Mark

  33. Hi Peter!

I’m so happy to hear that you like the Twins book! When I heard what a fan you were, I knew you had to have it. The Twins are playing pretty well lately, have you been watching?

I went for a walk with Barron one day – your grandma is taking good care of him! I even got to play in the yard with him for a bit the other day.

You are so lucky to have your mom and dad and all of your family there to help take care of you. You are loved by many!

Love to you – and mom and dad!
    Janet

  34. i am just overwhelmed every time I sit and read all of your comments. Keep ’em coming.. we read them to Peter at night and they bring smiles (and tears too). I thought i’d share a few of the “brighter” moments from yesterday:

    1. We were hearing about al of the rain & flooding outside yesterday and Peter said, “Dad – do you know you have to drive slow on the streets when they are flooded? Do you know why? Because the water splashes up and makes Tornadoes!!!”
    2. Lots and lots of visitors, including his sisters Ellie & Kate, lots of family, some “Warrior Hockey Players” and his buddy (and ours!!) Jill from the bank with a whole BOX of suckers!!
    3. We saw a BIG rainbow out his window after all the rain – both ends!
    4. And of course, the twins won 11-2 (I think) and believe me, he will let you know what the score is if you ask!!!
    5. The “whoopie cushion” that Aunt Jayne, Unlce Gary and Cousin Abbey sent seems to get a few big laughs every day. And if you stop by, Peter will offer you some of his ice cream!

There were more, and i have forgotten right now. Peter is in the hallway right now racing a car or something with Uncle Tito (Trent) and Aunt Melissa. I don’t know what the game is but Peter is pointing at Trent telling him he’s a cheater, and Trent is pointing at Peter calling him a cheater!! We all feel so much better when he shows us “the real Peter”.
No tests today – we will have a long meeting with the Oncology doctors this afternoon to get the final diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan. I am nervous about reliving the entire diagnosis and yet looking forward to having it all “out on the table” so we can begin to move forward.

Can’t thank all of you enough for the support. I wish I could call each and every one of you personally – we will as time goes on. for now, please accept this as our Thank You to all!!! – Erika

  35. Hey Pete-man! You look so handsome in your cozy jammies! It’s nice to see that smile on your face, and you don’t just smile with your mouth, you smile with your whole face!!! I bet your nurses are just loving you! Hunter and BB pray every night that your boo-boos feel better. And you know that Jesus can hear them, because they are SO LOUD!!! Tiffany is coming over today, and her, Hunter and BB will make some cards for you. Emma feels bad that she can’t make one, so Hunter thought we would let her drool on a piece of paper and send that to you! YUCK!!!! Hang in there, buddy. Tell Spidey we said hi!

  36. Dear Peter,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Peter as you take on this courageous battle. We are thinking of your bright smile and beautiful eyes and thinking of the goodness in your heart. We are confident God is sending angels to give you even more strength. What a team you have on your side! Your mother and father have the determination, strength and willpower that will be sure to give team Eigner the edge.

Peter, the kids are all talking about you and would love to visit soon. We will check with your mom and dad to see if it is alright. But for now, they all have something to say.

Dear Peter, I caught a fish today. A sunny. It made me think of when we were fishing on the dock this year at my grandma’s house. That was fun. Remember the feeling of those fish you caught and how you pulled them in? And scoring on me when we played hockey? Stay strong Pete I ‘m waiting to see you soon. Henry

Dear Peter, I hope you feel better soon. I am thinking happy thoughts for you. Emma

Dear Pete, POWER UP! You be the red one and I am the green one. Together we will fight the forces of evil. Love, Sam a.k.a. the green power ranger

Dear Peter, I had lots of tests and stuff when I was little. It was not that fun, but it was all about making me feel better. Now everything is great and I like to eat lots of candy and stuff and I would like to do that with you sometime. Do you like candy? Bubble gum is my favorite. Zach

Peter, we will be waiting to see you and hear about how good you are feeling. You are in our prayers! For now, hold on tight to mom and dad’s hand because the bad guy has no chance against team Eigner.

    God Bless!

Love, Becky Henry Emma Sam & Zach

    GO TWINS!!!!

  40. Hi Peter, Erika, and Ty,

Pete, I knew your Mom when she was a little girl, and you look so much like her and your Uncle Matt! I think that is pretty great cause Hanson kids are not only good-looking like you, but also tough like you! Just know that all of us in the Noble family think you have a great family and lots of friends who love you dearly.

We are sending you our love and I wish I could find a stuffed animal that you don’t already have to keep you company, but it looks like you have every fun animal ever made!!

I hope when you feel better we can meet. In the meantime, do what you have to do and tell your Mom and Dad that we are in your corner. You are a little fighter and a hockey player–hockey players are tough!

Lots of love, Bette, Terry, Jackie, Mike, and Amy Noble

PS If you can think of a stuffed animal that you don’t have, let me know and I will get it for you!!!

  41. Hi Pete,
You don’t know me but our family used to live in Brainerd. We know a lot of the same people, I think. My good friend Nancy Freeman said she’s been thinking about you a lot. Her son, Jack, plays hockey. I want you to know I have a very good friend who is going through a lot of the same treatments as you and now every time I see him or talk to him, I will also think of you. That means I will think of you every day!You are brave and strong, I can tell by your picture. How’s your hair? I love the feel of buzzed hair! My family and half the people in Bozeman, Montana will think of you and your family when we say our prayers.
