Update From Erika

Here is Erika’s comment she just left an hour ago:

I am just overwhelmed every time I sit and read all of your comments. Keep ‘em coming.. we read them to Peter at night and they bring smiles (and tears too). I thought i’d share a few of the “brighter” moments from yesterday:

  1. We were hearing about al of the rain & flooding outside yesterday and Peter said, “Dad – do you know you have to drive slow on the streets when they are flooded? Do you know why? Because the water splashes up and makes Tornadoes!!!”
  2. Lots and lots of visitors, including his sisters Ellie & Kate, lots of family, some “Warrior Hockey Players” and his buddy (and ours!!) Jill from the bank with a whole BOX of suckers!!
  3. We saw a BIG rainbow out his window after all the rain – both ends!
  4. And of course, the twins won 11-2 (I think) and believe me, he will let you know what the score is if you ask!!!
  5. The “whoopie cushion” that Aunt Jayne, Unlce Gary and Cousin Abbey sent seems to get a few big laughs every day. And if you stop by, Peter will offer you some of his ice cream!

There were more, and i have forgotten right now. Peter is in the hallway right now racing a car or something with Uncle Tito (Trent) and Aunt Melissa. I don’t know what the game is but Peter is pointing at Trent telling him he’s a cheater, and Trent is pointing at Peter calling him a cheater!! We all feel so much better when he shows us “the real Peter”.
No tests today – we will have a long meeting with the Oncology doctors this afternoon to get the final diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan. I am nervous about reliving the entire diagnosis and yet looking forward to having it all “out on the table” so we can begin to move forward.

Can’t thank all of you enough for the support. I wish I could call each and every one of you personally – we will as time goes on. for now, please accept this as our Thank You to all!!! – Erika

  1. Thanks for the great update Erika, it is always great to hear good news, I can’t help but laugh as I read about Peter’s good moments of being himself with his friends and family.

Pete … we had all that rain in Milwaukee too. I looked out my office window and it looked like our parking lot was a lake and the street in front of our building was a river! I thought I was going to need a boat to get home. Good thing it stopped raining and the rain drained away before I was able to leave. The lights went out three times while I was working … that was kind of fun. 🙂

Love Auntie G’s Mom … are you making her laugh for me? Can you give her a big hug since I’m so far away? Thanks!

  2. Erika and Ty: Hope the both of you are doing well. It has to be so hard and painful at times. Sounds like Peter is doing better today and playing some. You all are in our thoughts everyday and have prayers going out all over Omaha for Peter. Hope the meeting and results go well this afternoon.
We love you and will keep praying… Thanks also to Uncle Matt for the fabulous website and keeping us up to date with Peters progress.
Peter: say hi to Grandma Mary from us too. Lots of love ..

  4. Ty and Erika,

What a nice web site for all of us to hear how things are going. Every morning and every night a prayer goes your way. I just talked with my sister and a Beads of Courage package will be on the way. I hope this helps Peter to be able to tell his story as things get going. Good Luck!

  5. We are praying fervently for ALL of YOU! I just got another update, and want to know if the Peter needs bone marrow donated to him? I’m assuming a transfusion of bone marrow depends on the blood type, am I wrong? Please inform us of how we can help in this way. We Love and are PRAYING for y’all!

  6. Good to hear from you Erika-
Be strong at your meeting this afternoon…. I agree with you in that athough it will be difficult to hear the diagnosis and prognosis, atleast you can now start the road to recovery! We are hoping Peter gets to spend some time at home before his chemo starts! We’d love to give him some big squeezes! Let us all know how the meeting went!

  13. Hey there Peter!

I am glad to hear that you like the Twins book so much! From the story your uncle Matt wrote, it sounds like some day you will make a great umpire after some years of playing in the big leagues. I hope you are enjoying all of your visitors! I hope to see you soon and play baseball with you again in Grandma Mary’s backyard!

    Kelsey

  14. Hi Peter,

How are you doing today? Jill said she had a lot of fun hanging out with you yesterday. She told me how you liked your giraffe but I knew the suckers from her would be the best surprise of all. Jill said your favorite was green, that is mine too! I wanted to let you know that my husband Dave and I will be selling your raffle tickets tonight at the Shep’s party. I can’t wait…I am going to try and sell hundreds of them! I will let you know how it goes. Take care.

    Love,

    Heidi

  15. Hi Peter
Thank you so much for letting me sit with you yesterday and visit. I had a great time looking at the books with you and watching you paint the turtle on Emilys hand. You did a great job. I am going to get an ice cream cone like you have and when you get better we will have to have an ice cream cone fight. Did you have a sucker today? I hope not a blue one. That made your lips and tongue look pretty bad. I hope you are feeling much better today. Maybe your daddy should not cook for you. I think that was what made you sick last night. That was the biggest rainbow I have ever seen. I think it was shining right down for you to brighten your day. You take care little buddy and I will talk to you soon.
    Love and Prayers
    Jill

  16. Hi Peter and family,

Dino and I want to say that we love you guys and miss you. You are two of the strongest people we know and if anyone can beat this it is the two of you. There is not a mintue that goes by that Dean and I do not think of you two and Peter. I wish there was more we could do. You have our support, prayers and love and anything else you need. Keep your head up and keep fighting!
We hope to visit on Monday. We will call and see if that is going to be okay closer to the day.
Please do not hesitate to ask for anything.

  18. Dear Peter (Erika and Ty)….I am a friend of your Grandma (Barb) Hanson. I have been thinking about all of you so much this past week and have been saying prayers for you. Although I have never met Peter, I really enjoyed seeing his photo. What a handsome little future Twins player!! Thanks to Matt for doing this wonderful website, making it so easy for friends and family to check for progress updates. God bless all of you! Love and Friendship, Jan Walton

  19. Hi Peter, Ty and Erika:

We miss seeing all of you around the office, but you are in our thoughts and prayers daily, if not every waking moment!!!!!! You guys are all so strong and we wish nothing but the best for you. If you need anything at all, please don’t be afraid to ask.

Peter – Hope you’re feeling better real soon so you can stop by and get some candy from us!!!!!! (We’ll save some for your mom too!!!!! – we’ve got chocolate!!)

We love your website – we check it several times daily (don’t tell the bosses) – thanks so much for all of the updates and for letting us know you’re hanging in there. Thanks for all of your hard work Uncle Matt.

Stay Strong – We’ll see you soon.

    Sindy Shanks and Tonya Hagelie

  20. Peter, do you remember meeting David? You asked David to play. And after spending time with David you announced “We’re playing pirates, cause pirates don’t speak”.

We already knew you were bright, but we were impressed by your ability to simply incorporate David’s differences into the game.

So Peter – Have fun, play games, and smile at your family. Cancer does not decide who you are; it is just something you and your family will deal with.

Erika and Ty – stay positive. Lean on all the love and support that surrounds you.

Matt – Thanks for the web site.

With all our love and support – and anything else we can do for you
    Steve, Lorene and David

Hope you get a plan of action when you meet with the doctors. Take care of yourselves and know that you have many prayer warriors out here praying for you. May God continue to give you strength to endure all you are going through.

  28. Dear Peter,
You don’t know us. We are friends of your grandparents’ friends, the Johnsons. Ken told us about you and your website. We live far away, in Indiana. We want you to know that you and your family are in our prayers and we are hoping and praying for a speedy recovery for you. You have people all over the country pulling for you! Hurry and get well very quickly! We will be watching as you grow well and strong every day. You are very brave, Peter.

  31. Dear Erica, Ty, Peter & Family:

Amy let us know about Peter’s website several days ago and our heart is breaking for you all! It seems as though you are in the best place possible for the treatment that Peter will need! So many strides have been made over my lifetime in the treatment of this disease!

We are praying for you all in this trial that you are going through, and hoping that you will put little Peter in God’s hands! The power of prayer is so strong and it sounds like many are being made in little Peter’s behalf each day!

We have never met little Peter and what a beautiful child he is! Those eyes and smile are beautiful! Erica, your brother, Matt, has put together a wonderful website to keep all of us informed. I loved the photo he posted day before yesterday, holding his Spiderman figure!

Ty, I will never forget running into your Grandpa, your Mom’s Dad, in the Tom’s Red Owl in Rosemount many years ago and visiting with him about various things, when he mentioned that he was Mary Eigner’s Dad. What a positive person he seemed to be, hence the reason that your wonderful Mom appears to always be so positive and upbeat!

You have been in our thoughts and prayers all week and that will continue, so keep looking up! You have many supporters to help you gain strength through all of this!

    Love,

Bill & Betty Ann Rabe & Family

  32. Dear Eigner Family,

We just heard the news and wanted to let you know that we are praying for Peter every day and asking God to give your family strength during this time. Thank you for putting together this website so that we can stay updated. We’ll be going to a Twins game soon and if we happen to catch a ball, I’m sending it to Peter!

    Be strong!

    Best Regards,
    Steve, Lisa and Joe
