All Is Well

This is just a quick update to let you know that Peter’s progress continues. Yesterday was another good day. Peter is being slowly weaned from the vent and some of the many drugs, but the difference isn’t visible yet (other than the removal of the paralytic). The doctors and nurses are very excited by his progress.

I don’t know when he could be removed from the vent completely and it really doesn’t matter much, as long as he does get off the vent eventually. The prayers and support are definitely working. Our slogan for almost a year now has been “Do You Believe in Miracles?”. The fact that the word ‘miracles’ is plural is especially ideal, since we need two: Complete recovery from cancer and complete recovery from ARDS. Keep on believing.

  4. Peter ~
I will never stop believing…. it’s kind of ironic- because just yesterday Emily was sitting on my lap and she was kind of fiddling around with my “peter bracelet”. She asked me when I take it off…. and I explained to her that I never take mine off…. she then asked how long I was going to wear it… and I told her that I would wear it until the day that Peter is all better. She thought for a minute and then softly said, “That’s a good idea… cuz that means that we will always believe.” So, yes… as she so eloquently spoke, “we will ALWAYS believe!!”
I am thrilled to hear that “All is Well”… that’s all we could ask for at this point! Those are the kind of headlines we like to see! 🙂 With each passing day that can be described as “well” – we are brought that much closer to the day when the two miracles currently being asked to happen – WILL happen!!
It’s best to let things heal slowly – and, Uncle Matt is right, it doesn’t matter when you get off the vent… just as long as you get off it. You’re body will let you know when it’s ready. Just continue working on those baby steps and let the huge strides come when they’re ready! We are soooo incredibly happy to read about each baby step you take … I am not sure what our reactions will be when you take a ginormous leap some day! You might hear us squealing all the way to NYC!
If I am remembering things correctly – we are a day away from the day that we learned that Peter had cancer. It’s still really weird to say that outloud. “Peter has cancer.” It has been a hell of a year for Peter…. his mommy & daddy, his sisters… all of his family, actually- because when someone you love so dearly is hurting, it makes us all hurt. Peter has been through some awfully difficult situations this last year. And, certainly ones that he would have done just fine without!! But since we can’t control God’s plan – we have to take what He gives us and deal with it. Peter- let me tell you, you have ‘dealt’ with this better than I would ever have imagined. … and so much better than I ever would have if I had been in the same situation. You have taught us umpteen lessons – so much more than any classroom lecture ever could. I think your Uncle Tito summed it up pretty good when he mentioned his “pity potty” day. I think we’ve all had those moments. I know I do – almost daily!! Whenever things just seem to “suck” or “stink” …. or whenever I am feeling sorry for myself, or cringing at the dust in my house… I really do think of Peter (or Ty & Erika) and then I realize that dust doesn’t matter! When the girls are fighting with one another over something petty… I first lose my patience with them -and then I settle down and remind myself to choose my battles. I often say to them, “Look at you two fight! Do you know what Peter is going through right now??? Do you know what he wouldn’t give to be at home right now playing with Kate & Ellie….and here you two are fighting!!?!!!” I think the silver lining that I have found this last year is that we need to stop and realize the TRULY important things in life. And who would have thought that a 5 year old would be my teacher?
Now that I have taken up way more than my allotted space, I want to say once again, Peter – that I love you so much… and I will never stop believing! You are such a fighter… your will and determintion are enviable. Stay strong, my friend. Keep wiggling your toes and using that ET finger….we look forward to another day of everything being “well.”
With all our love and prayers~

P.S. I sure do miss Kate & Ellie too! We hope to see them at daycare again soon. HUgs and kisses to my Chubba and my Ellie-Bellie.
