3 down, 3(+) to go

I figured I’d give Uncle Matt a short break while they’re in NY on business (I guess a guy could have a break to do some things for his “real” job for a few days!!!) We are unbelievably happy to report that Peter handled Round 3 with as much ease as he did the first 2. And they had warned us that the chemo drugs this round can have some pretty severe side effects. We never know what the future will hold, so we’ll only focus here on the immediate, and Peter has had virtually none so far. As the doctors have said, “you’d think we’ve been giving him water all week!!” Believe me when I say we are counting our blessings.
The final information we received on the CT scans (neck, chest, abdomen/pelvis) was positive. The infected lymphnode behind Peter’s ear looks clear, the ones in his chest/shoulder area still show disease but are smaller, and the primary tumor in his abdomen is “significantly reduced”. That is all fantastic news, especially combined with the marrow looking clear!
Thought I’d clarify on the upcoming treatment as we’ve had many questions about that after the test results this week. Despite things clearly moving in the right direction, Peter’s treatment will remain the same: 3 more rounds of chemo, another surgery as planned, as well as the bone marrow transplant and likely some radiation & other things following that.
With a little luck, we’ll be home for 2 weeks before we head back for Round 3. Peter plans on being “the Hulk” (for the 2nd year in a row) for Halloween so he’ll definitely be sporting his costume when we go back to the hospital!
Baby Kate is pulling at my leg and needs a new diaper, so I’ll end it here!
Thanks to each of you for all you have done for our family.

  1. What a champ that Peter is, going through all this and still remaining upbeat and positive. Glad that he has had no significant side effects from his latest round and that the tests are improving daily.
Thanks for the update Erika and we think of all of you everyday and continue to pray for Peter and you and Ty also. Keep the faith and God WILL bless Peter and help him beat this.
We send you all our love and prayers.

  2. Good morning Eigner family-
Allelujiah and Amen for an absolutely amazing week and mostly, Amen for the amazing and inspirational young man that you call your son! That boy of yours is incredible! We are all so happy to read such awesome news and we are so happy to hear that things are going well. God definetly blessed you when He gave you Peter. As he fights this disease, you are seeing firsthand what a remarkably brave and courageous young man he is. I think we all wish we had just one ounce of his courage, his bravery and his unwithering positive attitude. He’s one phenomenal kid {not that you didn’t know that already!!}.

We hope you are able to enjoy some time together at home as a family. I understand Peter’s exposure to the “outside world” will be monitored closely – but please know that if at all possible – we would gladly stop over for another short visit some weekend! 🙂

Peter – hello, my sweet boy! I just want to tell you again that you absolutely amaze me! You are truly the most inspiring little man that I know. I can only hope that one day, my little Parker has one small morsel of your bravery. I am honored to know you, Peter. Keep your fight up, honey… . you are one heck of a special boy! Always remember that we love you and we can’t wait for the day that you get to come back and play with the daycare kids. Your smile is missed!
Have a fantastic couple weeks at home…. call me sometime if you want, ok?!

P.S. I’ve seen you in that Hulk costume…. you are the best looking Hulk in the universe! Emily chose to be a witch (and she claims she’s going to be a “wicked” witch!), Lily is going to be a clown ( and she claims she’s going to be a “scary” clown)… as for baby Parker , he’s just going to be my lil’ pumpkin!

Erika – call me sometime if you have any info on the wristbands.

With love, happy thoughts and prayers by the pound-

  3. Hi Peter, The Hulk costume is very appropriate for you!!!!!! Keep up the good fight. We are leaving for church soon and will probably see Grandma and Grandpa Poopster so we, of course, will be saying another prayer for you.

  5. Dear Erika and all your sweet little family,

I am in awe of your courage and upbeat attitude. It takes a fighting spirit to beat cancer and a whole lot of prayer and positive thinking, and you guys have that down pat! It was fanstastic, awesome, miraculous news about the tumors shrinking! That means the chemo is working! I am one of the fortunate few to beat ovarian cancer because I had all that going for me. Basically, the chemo worked! I feel good about your latest news, and I think we can all be more optimistic now.

You “do what you have to do” and then you just pray like crazy. I am praying for all of you every morning and every night.

I am happy Peter can be The Hulk again. It is a perfect costume for him! A tough guy, that Hulk, and so is Pete Eigner.

Thanks for keeping us updated! Terry, Mike, and Jackie read the site too. We are all praying for you.

    Much love,

    Bette

That is great that things are going so well. You deserve the Hulk costume for Halloween because that how tough you have been through this. Keep fighting and my prayers are with you.

  12. Hi Eigner’s– Wow!!!! Peter you have made fantastic progress. I know that it might seem like every day is almost the same as the day before, but it sounds like all the medicine is really working and doing what it’s supposed to. Peter, it also sounds like you are doing what you are supposed to and being a good listener and good cooperator with not only your family, but the other adults who love you and are helping you get better–your doctors and nurses really appreciate your great attitude. Your sisters are lucky to have you for a big brother too!! We all think you are one brave boy!! Too bad about those Twins–maybe we’ll do better next year. Will you be cheering for the Tigers in the World Series? I’m anxious to see you in your HULK costume so make sure and put some pictures on the website since we live too far away for you to trick or treat at my door! Keep up the good work and take care. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers every day.

    God Bless!
    Sue Ellen Olson

  13. What great news….Peter, you are unbelievable! So happy to hear the 3rd round went well, especially with the prognosis of it being a tough round. I liked your picture in the jersey, however I hate to admit it, but I had to go online and find more information on the team! Have a fun Halloween, Hulk Man!!
    Dee

  14. Hey Peter, Ellie and Kate, I hope you are being good for Mom and Dad. It’s a yucky day here today. I was going to rack leaves but it’s kinda rainy so I’ll wait until tomorrow. Ellie what are you going to be fpor Halloween? And what is Kate going to be? Maybe if Mom and Dad need some help next week I’ll come up for a few days. Have a great day. Love Gramma Mary

  15. Eigners,
We’re so glad to hear everything is going so well. Our hearts go out to all of you for all you’ve been through. It’s so good to see you have so much support and love! You are in our hearts and prayers.
    Debby and Bob

  16. Hey Peter – I’m glad to hear that you are taking this round well. Its a tough one. I’m looking forward to seeing your Hulk costume when we go in for round 4. Do you have any suggestions for a costume for me? Well, stay strong bud and we’ll see you in 2 weeks. Mary Virnig

  17. Hi Eigner Family-
My assumption is that “no news is good news”…. so we will assume that Peter M’Geter is doing perfectly well… which isn’t surprising!! 🙂

    Peter-
It has been a yucky couple days, just like your Gramma Mary said. It rains and rains, and then when it stops (for a second or two), all the daycare kids think that means we can go outside! They are sooo silly! Today at daycare we are celebrating Baden’s third birthday! Emily Clare is very excited about today, because she only has to go to school for a 1/2 day and then she has tomorrow AND Friday off! She says she is looking forward to being a “daycare kid” again! 🙂 We hope that you continue to do well…. and we will continue to keep you in every prayer we say!
With love and happy thoughts –
Jenni, Ryan, Emily, Lily & Parker

  18. Hi Peter-

You don’t know me, but I know your Dad from hockey. I am a high school hockey coach like your Dad — I coach a girls’ varsity team in St. Paul. Just thought I’d let you know that we are reading your website and we are glad to hear that you’re doing so well.

There are two things I know about hockey players:
    Number one: They are tough.
Number two: God loves them and watches over them.

So I was really glad to hear that you are a hockey player — because that means that you have a couple of really important things going for you!

Have a great Halloween! Remember, only tough guys get to be the Hulk (so it seems that you are well-qualified).

    Keep up the good work.
Tell your Dad I say “hello.”
    Ted Cheesebrough
