So Far, So Good

You can see from the previous post that the kid is looking good and fortunately he’s feeling relatively good, too. His hair style is so fancy that he’s attracted a following. Ty and Uncle Trent are wearing the buzz and I joined the club this afternoon. I hear Uncle Troy is up tonight. The haircut formula is pretty simple; Put a #2 attachment on a razor and cut ’til it’s gone. Then you too can look like Peter or Beckham (at least from the forehead up).

His IV pole is in constant tow and it has many new computers and bags dangling. That doesn’t stop him from playing some knee hockey in the hallway. I said his pole is starting to look like a Christmas tree and Peter told me that the new stuff helps fight the bad guys. Yesterday Erika and Ty asked what his favorite part of the day was. “Swishing the medicine around in my mouth.”, he responded. (They put a plunger of medicine in his mouth each day during chemo to prevent sores and apparently it tastes pretty good.)

There aren’t many outward effects of treatment yet and hopefully that trend will continue. I personally would love to see him keep his big eyelashes and we all just want him to be comfortable. They say that the side effects are different for each patient, but we only care that Peter gets the primary effect — remission.

  1. Wow! Peter John, we are SOOOOOO proud of you for being SOOOOO strong and courageous! You are one tough dude! We are thankful that you are doing well with Captain Chemo so far. Yes – we too hope that this trend will continue…. and even if you do have bad days, the amount of people praying should send you enough strength to get through the tougher moments too! The prayers are intense, Peter. We all love you so much back here and can’t stop thinking of you, sweet boy! Keep up the good work – you show that cancer whose boss! One more day of treatment this time around? Will you get to come home for a while afterwards?
Ty and Erika, let me know if you need anything done around your house prior to coming home…. getting the “germs” out or whatever else you can think of! I have gotten pretty good with the bleach spray around here…. 12 little munchkins sucking on toys and touching door knobs after picking noses (!!)… well, you get the idea…. when it comes to disinfecting, you can call on me!
We’ll sleep happy again tonight… and well be sure to THANK God for blessing you with 2 strong days in a row! Go Peter!
Sleep tight…. we love you till the day after forever.
Your daycare family – Jenni, Ryan, Emily, Lily and Parker

  2. Peter….I think your haircut is very nice… and I enjoyed all the pictures on your website. That Super Man is a pretty big guy…he takes up more than his share of your bed!!!

I know the new medicine is helping fight the bad guys! Peter, we used to live by your Grandma and Grandpa Hanson and knew your mom when she was a little girl. And now she’s a grown up mom herself! You have lots of love and support and many prayers are going to Jesus for you to get better.

Ask Grandma Hanson to e-mail me as the address I have didn’t go through.
Love and prayers to your family!
    Dee and Jim Wade

  3. WOW !! What a BIG BRAVE boy you are taking your medicine like a CHAMP !
Glad to hear all went good for you today and hopefully tomorrow will be the same for you. You are really showing the ” bad guys ” who is boss.
You take care and have a good sleep while God and the Angels watch over you.
Lots of Love to you and mommy and daddy too !!

  4. Hi Eigners,
We too are so very glad to hear day #2 has gone well!!! Sure would be nice to see more days like these than of some that are more than likely inevitable. We JUST got home from Jen’s – thought I’d check the site for news. Wouldn’t you know it – there she was already!! She doesn’t miss a beat! She’s a good Mommy, and daycare Mommy – she sure is having a tough time with Peter’s diagnosis. But we all know he’s going to beat this all the way!!! Hope tonight and tomorrow keep going well. Just know there are hundreds and hundreds praying!
Have a good sleep, Peter (and Mom and Dad).

  5. Dear Pete,

Terry and I are reading the web site that your Uncle Matt posts each day. Did you know that Terry still plays hockey at age 65? He got hit by a puck on his cheek a few weeks ago, and a friend who is a doctor who skates at the same time stitched him up in the locker room. At age 65! So you see hockey players are really, really tough!! You are tough too! Peter, we just want you to know that we have you in our hearts and prayers. Hang in there, little hockey player. A lot of people are cheering for you, and prayer really works. I am a cancer survivor of 11 years and I am praying you will have the same results as I did with chemo. Look at chemo as your Friend–it is not easy, but it is worth it when it kills the Bad Guys. I imagined my cancer as hockey pucks that my son Mike and his friend Matt (your uncle) would hit with their hockey sticks and it would make it explode and go away! That may help you too!

    We send you our love,

Terry and Bette Noble and all the Noble family

  6. Hi Peter (Ty & Erika too)
Well, great hair cut!! I have to warn you that EVERYONE will be rubbing their hands on your head now. Jacob (4) has a hair cut just like you. He loves it when I make his hair “cool”. I’m sure your Mom & Dad know how to do it, tell them it’s all in the hair gel. Sometimes Jacob thinks he’s a ROCK STAR!!

That Super Man is Awesome. What a great snuggle partner.
We love looking at your website to learn about how you are doing.

    You are a ALL STAR!!
    Way to FIGHT-FIGHT FIGHT!!
    Good Night Peter

  7. Peter,

Hey buddy I’m just getting moved into my room at BC. I’ve made lots of new friends and having lots of fun. It was lots of fun to see you before I left. I hear your still playing knee hockey even though you have to carry your pole around with you. I like that. Keep kicking those bad guys butts, your such a tough little guy. Talk to you later.

    Love ya,
    Carl

  8. Erika and Ty,
We anxiously read Uncle Matt’s new posting on Peter’s website every day looking for encouraging news. Please know you are in our constant thoughts and prayers. This website is amazing! I hope you feel the strength, love and support being passed onto your family by everyone that loves you. We hope to see you very, very soon.
Hang in there! Peter looks great, he is SO lucky to have both of you!

    Peter,
We are so proud of you for being so brave and strong, you are an amazing boy. Your mom and dad tell us that all the time! You have a lot of people cheering for you every day, we are so excited for the day you get to come home – really soon! We like your new haircut, does your dad look as good as you do?

    Sweet Dreams, Peter!

  9. Peter, I delivered your kisses to Baron but now I have hair in my mouth – Yuk!! I think you played a trick on me because you knew that I’d end up with a mouth full of fur.
After I left the hospital I went to watch Grace and Lily so Uncle Troy and Auntie Macer could come to see you. Grace and Lily send you big hugs and sloppy kisses.
I will stop by for a brief time tomorrow to see you unless you want some quiet time with Mom and Dad. I will understand completely. If I was in the hospital feeling yucky I would want some quiet time too. I want to do what is best for you little buddy.
    I love you lots
    Gramma Mary

We’re adding our prayers for healing and strength. This afternoon while thinking over Alicia’s update, I thought to myself “where’s Grandpa Weiland when we need him?” and then answered my own question. He’s up there with God putting in a good word for all of you, I’m sure of that.

  11. Hi, Peter! You don’t know us but your dad played hockey with my husband, Reid McDonald, way back in the dark ages. 🙂 We live in Eagle River, Alaska, and we just got wind that you are a brave four year old going through some rough times. Reid and I have 3 boys, ages 7, 5, and 2, all rough and tough little hockey players and Spiderman lovers, like yourself. The 7 yr old also sports the same hairdo as you, I love the way it feels when he gets it buzzed. What other superhereos do you like? We would love to get you something that helps your days pass by with a smile. Up here in Alaska, we will be praying for your “speedy” recovery and look forward to reading more about you. What hospital are you in? I have an uncle who lives in the cities and is a Doctor. Stay strong little man, it sounds like you have a huge web of family and friends that think you are something special. Stay strong and keep smiling that adorable smile that I have seen in the pictures. Sincerely, Shanda McDonald and family

  12. hey Pete,

  15. Hey Peter! I’m your Grandma Mary’s old neighbor in Apple Valley. I heard you had this awesome website up and just had to check it out. I love to hear how good you’re doing! I especially like the picture of you and Superman. You know you are a Superhero now too, so you are going to have to think of a real good Superhero name (that is if you haven’t already). I hear you’re working with Captain Chemo already and I know you both will make a great team to win this battle. You keep fighting and I’ll be praying for you everyday.
    Jacqui

  16. Hi Erika and Ty

My name is Chris and my mom is Mary’s neighbor. I found out about Peter a couple weeks ago and I just wanted to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have a two year old and a three month old. Our two year old was in and out of Children’s with seizures and I know how draining the hospital can be. Take care of yourselves and know that my family’s prayers are coming your way strong!

  17. Ty,

I found out about Peter’s condition from Jill Henderson. I wanted you to know that I am praying for Peter, you and the rest of your family to win this fight.

  18. Day #3 of the fight must be well underway by now…. we hope you had a great night’s sleep and are well rested today so you can fight hard again, buddy! Emily and I have been busy working on posters about you. We are having a POP for PETER sale this weekend at Auntie Tara’s house…. so we are putting signs up around town so people can find us and BUY POP FOR PETER! ALL the money EmilyClare makes will be for YOU and your momma and daddy! Emily is very excited to do this, and I must say, that as her mommy, I am PROUD of her for understanding that all her efforts will benefit YOU! She is (sadly!!??) a lot like her mother — we both like to shop a bit too much – so for her to be willing to pass her earnings on to YOU is quite amazing! I guess that just goes to show how much she LOVES you!! ALL YOU LOCAL BRAINERD AREA FRIENDS OF PETER, WE HOPE YOU WILL STOP BY and SHOW YOUR SUPPORT, TOO! The garage/pop sale is at 1116 “O” Street NE…. off of Mill Avenue! Stop by and HELP US HELP PETER!!!
Peter, do you want to hear something funny? Today Ellie came up to me and called me “Grandma”!! I said, “Ellie! Do I look like your grandma?” She just giggled! I think there have been times when you have called me mommy and grandma before, too! Last night I was talking to Emily and we decided that some day when you are healthy and strong again, we would like to do something FUN with you… we thought maybe mini-golfing, a movie, lunch, icecream… what ever you want! Well, Lily threw her idea in and thought we could “take Peter to the barn so he could see the elephants!” Hmmm…. not sure what she’s thinking! She kind of has this thing with elephants lately! We continue to pray really hard for you to get better as fast as you can! We sure do miss you, honey…. and we can’t wait for the day when you can come home again! Fight hard again today, Pete!
Always remember, we LOVE YOU TILL THE DAY AFTER FOREVER!
    Love, Jenni

  19. Hi Peter!
I’m Abby Conrad’s grandmother, know on our website as Nana J. She was diagnosed with NB on April 12, so is a few months ahead of you in treatment. In fact she is in Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis right now doing her 6th round of chemo..that’s her last one before stem cell transplant. It’s going well for her and I know it’ll go well for you too. The first couple are the hardest it seems, then you’re going to breeze right thru!

Please check out our website too so you can track Abby and we’ll keep checking yours too. Prayers and good wishes to you and your family, Peter. Tell your Mommy and Daddy to call or email anytime if they have questions or just would like to have a ‘support group’ contact. Love to you, Nana J

  22. Hi Peter,

I am glad to hear you are feeling good today!! I wanted to share something with you that happened yesterday. I drove up to the rink and guess what? The big sign on the outside of the hockey rink says: “KEEP FIGHTING PETE” Can you believe it, the sign is about you!! You are a pretty special guy!

I bet the rink guys (aka Andy, Ed and Mike) did that for you because they care so much about you and your family. The rink guys are on your team too. You have a really BIG team!!

We are all on your team and are cheering for you to feel better real soon!!

I will take a picture of the sign and send it to your Uncle Matt so you can see it in the hospital.

  26. Pete and fam,
Your positive attitiudes have just as big an effect as that medicine you are carrying around with you. Awesome. And way to go, keep playing in those hallways and make use of the nurses, you’d be surprised what you can get them to do for you, ha ha. Jake used to have great fun with that. I am so jealous that you get to watch the fireworks from your room, no fair!!

Keep the upward attitude and when you don’t feel like it sometimes, that’s ok. YOu are human and that is what your support system is for!
