All The Latest

We’ve all been enjoying the great news from the last trip to New York. The days have been far less exciting lately and that’s a good thing. Yet the battle continues. Peter is winning, and we know he’s a champion, but he’s certainly not done fighting cancer.

I’ll explain the present strategy against cancer, but right now Peter is fighting RSV (Respitory Syncytial Virus). I suppose this would be a bad cold in most kids, but Peter is a special case. On Sunday night, Peter’s sister Kate was hospitalized with pneumonia. As soon as she was released, Peter’s school called because he was sick with a fever.

Ty took him to the clinic where he was diagnosed. And then he was taken to the hospital. Normally RSV isn’t treated, but he was given antibiotics and blood cultures were drawn. He will be monitored closely, especially because of his history with ARDS. Mom and Dad will also monitor Ellie, as well, since she’s probably in line to pick up this contagious bug.

Now back to the fight against cancer. In NYC Peter was still HAMA positive. Until he’s HAMA negative, he can’t receive any more 3F8 antibody treatment. His HAMA level will continue to be tested and he will receive more 3F8s in NY whenever his HAMA level drops (hopefully sooner than later).

They also tested Peter’s immune system in NYC to determine if it was back to full strength since his transplant. It is not, so he continues to take daily medication. Every three months Peter will be back in NYC for the testing he just had in early January and his immune system will be tested again. The next trip is planned for April (and this is the next time we all sit on pins and needles waiting for test results).

Peter’s blood pressure remains high and Ty and Erika are pressing to get to the root cause. His pressure is checked twice daily and he remains on hypertension medication. You can see that even as we get to rest easy with the last round of great test results, Ty and Erika do not.

Finally, once Peter puts RSV behind him, he will have his central line removed. This is the Hickman — the lines that have been permanently dangling from his chest for over 18 months. The timing of this is great, because he is scheduled to go to Disney World in March through the Make a Wish foundation. With his lines removed, he’ll be able to play in the water without a wetsuit and fully enjoy the activities…. and he’ll be able to take his first shower in well over a year!

A while ago I ran another big batch of Peter’s People t-shirts and I’ll be opening them up for sale through this site in the coming days. I know that some of you missed the first sale, so come on back for this round. I’ll keep the sale open until I’m out of stock.

  1. Peter, we’re so sorry to hear that you and your sister have picked up a bug….as if you and your family need another case of worries. But you have a lot of great doctors watching you close, and you’re a fighter, so we know you will get over this hurdle very soon!

And it sounds like there are some great things to look forward to… getting that line finally removed – I bet you will feel so free! And Disney – how cool is that?!? Nobody deserves that trip more Peter, and we’re so excited for you! Our family went last year and had a blast – you will love it!

Hey Peter, do you remember the hockey stick you signed for us at your first benefit at the Timbermist? Well, after recently breaking 2 sticks, Luke finally grabbed that stick to use it, but then he called me right before hockey that same day saying he was at MJs and asked if he could buy a new stick because he couldn’t make himself tape over your autograph! You’re like a celebrity in our house, kiddo! 🙂

You and your family are always in our thoughts and prayers, but we’ll say some extra ones tonight for you, your sister, and your friends who are battling this fight too! Take care!

  4. Peter and Family~

We are so sorry to hear about the RSV. Logan got it too last week. I hear it’s going around like crazy! We know and understand neuroblastoma all to well, and know that even with this last round of good news, you still worry everyday about the next round of tests! We are so happy for you and your family for where you are today, and are so glad to hear that the central line will be coming out soon! What awesome news that you are going to Disney World!! How much fun that will be to be able to go swimming without any lines! Hoping and praying they can find a solution for the high blood pressure. Also praying for the HAMA levels to go down so Peter can be treated again.
Thinking about you guys all the time and continuing to pray for clean scans for years and years to come. Hope to talk to you soon!

All our love and prayers~ Ryan, Megan, and Logan

  7. Peter,

I am sorry that you are not feeling well, but I know that you will get better soon because you are a true fighter and an inspiration to us all!

You will have to tell us all the great things you do in Disney, that is what Ella is going to pick for her Make-a-wish also. So since you will be going before us you can give us the inside scoop on what characters are funny, what rides are good, where you get the best ice cream and all the fun stuff!!!

Get better soon, we will say a special prayer tonight for you and your sister to start feeling better and for your Mom and Dad to get some rest.

    Erika, John, Ella and Caden

  8. Dearest Eigners,

Oh how I hate to hear of yet another battle for Peter! I think it is time all viruses leave him (and his sisters) alone. Praying for speedy and complete healing from RSV, blood pressure issues, and quick return to NO HAMA.

So excited to hear about losing the Hickman. That is a BIG deal! What a fun time Peter will have WITHOUT that nuisance!

If it works out, it sure would be AWESOME to see you all at Camp Sunshine Mar 30-Apr 4 at Jellystone resort in Wisconsin (Erik and I’ll be volunteering again–it is a BLAST!!!!!). Family application just posted. It would also be great for Peter to enjoy the waterpark without the central line!

We love you guys and pray for you constantly!!!

PS Erik got excellent news today: PET/CT much improved–nearly normal!

  10. Hi to all,

It seems like I have been on the east coast forever so the updates on the site are so helpful. The news from the New York visit was great to read!!!! I pray that everyone is healthy soon, and the RSV is over quickly. Peter continues to amaze me as he rises to fight off everything that comes his way.

    God Bless all of you,

  11. Hey Eigner Family!

Just wanted to write and say that we are always checking on you and continue to hope for the best for Peter! Sounds like you are somewhat back to a normal life, or at least as normal as can be expected! Don’t know if you have checked up on Lexi lately, but we got word this week that we can start to think about the planning process for the kidney transplant! What a difference life will be for all of us when Lexi does not need daily dialysis! Still a long wait ahead but the fact that we can start thinking about it is great news! Maybe we will cross paths at the U of M one of monthly trips!

Hang in there and have a great time on your trip if I don’t get a chance to write again!

    Take Care!

  12. We are always checking up on you and keeping you in our prayers regularly. As an elementary school teacher, I keeping thinking what an honor it would be to have such a brave, wonderful student as you, Peter. I bet your teacher just loves you so much! It’s great to know you are planning a trip to Disney. I always say that looking forward to something like that is almost as much fun as being there. We hope you feel better soon and that the whole family is well all the way until spring-it’s just around the corner! Take care, all of you!

  16. Hi. I see that you don’t update your page too
often. I know that writing posts is boring and time consuming.
But did you know that there is a tool that allows you to
create new articles using existing content (from article
directories or other pages from your niche)?
And it does it very well. The new articles are unique and pass the copyscape test.
    You should try miftolo’s tools
