Pathology Report

The pathology report came back this morning and the news wasn’t as good as we all hoped. There are “favorable” and “unfavorable” forms of this disease and the existence of certain nodules in the mass indicated that Peter’s going to battle the more aggressive “unfavorable” variety. So he drew a tougher opponent, but Peter and fam are stepping up to the challenge.

This afternoon Peter went down to get some marrow drawn from his pelvis. He’s back in his room and eating this evening and looking pretty alert. Staff member Emily gave Peter a fake ice cream cone with a foam top that shoots into the face of the unsuspecting. He managed a couple giggles from bopping us.

Peter also upgraded his IV today to a fancy central line (or Hickman?). This is a multi-tube contraption that enters through his chest. It looks a little more extreme, but it can administer meds (including chemo), fluids, etc, as well as draw blood. So it should save him some uncomfortable pokes down the road.

Thanks again on behalf of the Eigners for all the support and comments.

    Peter
I was over feeding your cat a short time ago. I think he is playing hide and seek. Whenever I look for him he is no where to be found. I know he is there becasue his food dish is empty. He must have some very good hiding places!!!!!

    Ty & Erika,

We will continue to keep you guys in our prayers and thoughts. Hang in there!!!

  7. Hello Peter! We are friends of Roz & Ed Eigner and Roz has told us all about you. We were at their daughter Kims wedding and met your wonderful family.
Remember Peter Jesus Loves You and he is the great healer. He loves you so very much and wants you to get better.
We will be praying for you each and every day until you are better. We will be praying you are not in pain and the doctors do their very best to make you better. My niece was in the hospital sick just like you. She is completely healed now and is a nurse in a hospital helping little boys just like you! Maybe you will be a doctor some day.
We hope you will be playing hockey again soon. We hear its your favorite sport.
Isn’t it funny our dogs name is ED just like your Uncle ED! only our ED is a little fluffy white dog. Maybe you can see him someday. You are Special Peter. Your family and friends love you very much. May God Bless & Keep you in His Care….P,J,K,K & ED

  8. Dear Peter,

I heard you had a sore tummy. All the guys on the team are thinking about you. We’ve heard what a tough little guy you have been. I went to the Twins game Sunday and saw Santana pitch. It was a really great game and the Twins won 7-3. You cheer for us all season, now it’s our turn to cheer for you. Hope to see you at the rink real soon. Jack Freeman

    Dear Coach,

Our family is thinking about you and praying for your family. If you need me to stop by and mow or anything, just let me know. We’ll be down to see Pete soon. Jack

  10. Hi Peter!
Hope you are getting a good night’s sleep each night. I have been sleeping kind of restless thinking about you, bud! I just want all this to be over so you can come back and play! We truly miss you at daycare. I knew from the day I first met you 3 years ago that you were a special young boy… at 16 months old, you walked in my front door for your first day of daycare with us and held your hand out to me… and said “Nice to meet you!” I was shocked! Quite the vocabulary for a little tyke! But then again, you are quite the kid! I don’t think I know anyone as strong and brave as you are. I think you are braver than me… as a matter of fact, I KNOW you are braver than me!! We continue to think about you and can’t wait for the day when this is OVER and you are back at home where you belong. You need to send this cancer to the penalty box forever!! Stay strong … live strong and your body will continue to fight this!
    WE LOVE YOU!
    The Kelley’s

    P.S. To Ty and Erika-
You guys are the greatest most amazingly strong and supportive parents I know. I have witnessed your love and caring ways … your 3 beautiful children are so lucky to have you as parents. Continue to stay strong… and we will conitnue to pray for all of you until the day this cancer is beaten!!! Peter is a fighter…. he’s going to WIN this battle.
I know you are busy and worn out… but I so appreciate the occassional phone calls! Also, be sure that who ever has Ellie & Kate at this time knows that they are sooo welcomed back at daycare anytime! It’s important for them to have some sort of consistency in their life, too. We miss them, too!
    Love and prayers,
    Jenni

  11. To Matt-
Could you define “favorable” and “unfavorable”?? Or maybe give us a link to read more about it?

Thanks… Jen Kelley (Peter’s daycare provider)

  12. Hey Pete, When you get back to Brainerd we have to work on your basketball game. We are all thinking of you and learning a great deal from you as well. I can’t wait to take you and your Dad fishing (although we will have to catch all the fish as he has no talent in that area) We love you all!! Coach Z

  13. Pete-man,
I hope you are feeling well this morning, and I hope Auntie Macer finally remembers to bring Batman to hook up with his good buddies Spidey & Superman. I’ll come by later today to see you. I’m hoping you’ll have some ice cream ready for me.

Take care Pete, I love you,
    Uncle Troy

  16. Dear Peter, Erica and Ty,

We recieved a call today from your aunt Michelle who was so kind to fill us in on all the details of your recent week!

I want to tell you that our dayghter, Molly Hollway, who also plays hockey for Edina, is a 12 year survivor of \”Unfavorable Histology\” stage 3 high risk Neuroblastoma. She had a grapefruit size tumor just like yours back in 1993. She was treated at Minneapolis Children\’s hospital in Sept 1993 through June 1994. Today she is the picture of health!! We would love to come to visit you at the hospital and share our story with you. Molly can show Peter pictures of when she had neuroblastoma, and even her scar! There are many survivors of Neuroblastoma out there!!

I included Molly\’s web page in the URL above. Scroll down as you read it as there are many pictures of Molly when she was in treatment and at diagnosis. ( if the URL does not work; go to http://www.maryhollway.com and scroll down the left side for \”Molly\’s Story\” )

We all keep you in our prayers Peter. We will pray for your mom and dad too, as they are going to need lots of love, support and strength as they guide you through your treatment journey!

Molly is excited to meet you, so when you feel up to it, you can call us to come and visit!!

Take really good care of yourselves! Let everyone who asks….help you as much as they can. it is invaluable to yourselves and it is very healing to others!!

    God Bless!!

    Love from the Hollway\’s
Mary, Bill, Billy, Mike and Molly
(all 3 kids…and even dad, played or play hockey at Edina!)

  20. Ty, Eirka and Pete:

I can’t put into words my thoughts when I read the news of Pete. I can’t count the number of times that I talked about Pete on the radio…and how he ALWAYS had a smile on his face whenever I talked to him in person. Pete, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Ty and Erika, I can’t imagine what you are going through…and we will pray for you too. Bad things shouldn’t happen to good people. Yes, God does have a plan for you all.
