Round 1 Antibody complete

Peter has finished his first round of antibody treatment! I am very happy to report he has had no pain (yet!) today, which also makes me a little nervous that he’s already reached a HAMA response. I don’t recall if it’s even possible for that to happen over a weekend like this, but it does make me wonder. We won’t know until a couple of weeks from now if he’s reached it or not. (they want him to get 4-6 rounds prior to reaching HAMA) His primary doctor out here did bring some unsettling news earlier today. He said they (the Neuroblastoma team of docs) have been debating now for about 5 days, and are continuing for another day or two. We were told awhile back (at U of MN) that there is something that shows up on Peter’s scans in the tumor bed area (abdomen). Because it did not light up on the MIBG scan, and after careful reviews of the scan, they believed it to be scar tissue, but said they would definitely be following it. Apparently the team out here is not totally comfortable with that. They are considering doing another surgery in about 3 weeks. If they do it, they will go in to see exactly what they find. If there is disease, I assume they would be taking it out if it’s safe to do so, but they would also radiate directly to the site while they are in there. We are not sure how to feel about this. They don’t want to put Peter through another major surgery, but they also don’t want to let any potential disease go undetected. They reminded us that neuroblastoma is a very sneaky disease, and the surgery they did at the U was quite complex, and the tumor was up behind the pancreas, wrapped around some things, etc. So we will wait-We hope to know in the next couple of days what the plan is. This would delay the next antibody treatment. We will update once we know more. As we know you are, please keep Pete in your prayers…

  1. Dear Peter and Family,
We check in on you daily and keep the prayers flowing. As Ed and I know, the day by day waiting and evaluating takes a major toll on you all. We’re hoping that the “scar tissue” remains just that and no further surgery will be necessary. Stay Strong……..our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  2. Dear Peter and family,
We are praying for you and thinking of you. What a tough course your family has to navigate. We know you can do it. You have all shown such strength and fortitude.
It sure is hard to have uncertainty and changes of plan around each corner. It makes the decisions more complex, and harder for mom and dad to find the exact right path for their wonderful son. We wish you wisdom and even more strength!!

  3. Seems like it is one hurdle after another doesnt it? Our heart and prayers go out to you all. Peter has a lot of prayers going out for him and with the support team you all have here be sure to lean on us whenever you need to.
Keep postive thoughts and so will we and God will watch over Peter.
Hopefully the tests will all come back that it is scar tissue. If we can help you out in any way please ask. We love and think of you everyday

    Love,
    Uncle Chuck and Aunt Rose

We pray that the news the good doctors bring you is positive. Keep fighting those bad guys! Did you get to watch Justin Morneau in the homerun derby? Tanner was bummed that he didn’t win, but he did pretty good!

    Hope to see you soon.

  14. Peter,
You truly are a trooper!!! Round one is complete and that is awesome! I was very sad to hear that you had to endure pain through all of this, you would think enough is enough, but if it means that this path thing is out the door than it is worth all the struggles. Your doctors know what they’re doing and they will figure out this “scar tissue”, you just stay tough!!!!! Our prayers for your entire team have never stopped Peter, we will be sure to add some extras in the days ahead.

  16. Hey Ericka! Thinking of all of you, as always! Wanted to let you know about something I had sent to me from a paper in Wisconsin! It was an article about cancer patients being able to fly free to recongizned treatment centers around the country. Maybe you have heard of this or there is some other helpful things for you for your trips to N.Y., but here is the name, number, and website if you should need it:

    Corporate Angel Network, Inc.

I have the actual article if you would need that for reason but I think their website should get you started!

    Take Care!

  17. Hello Eigners!

    Hi Peter,

I graduated with your Aunt Michelle from RHS way too many years ago!

I have been watching your progress for quite some time now. I am praying for you and your family. I have heard many wonderful things about you (mostly from the Grillo family) and wanted to send you all my well wishes!

    All the best,

    Stephanie Anderson

  18. What a great way to start out my Thursday morning… a hot cup of coffee and a smiling Peter Eigner gracing the front page of today’s Dispatch!! What a great article… I smiled and I laughed and then I got tears in my eyes as I read the very last line; “Don’t be scared. It’s going to be OK. They doctors are going to make you feel better. They aren’t trying to hurt you.” These words coming from a remarkable 5 year old boy… I couldn’t have said it better myself! I think I just discovered my new favorite quote….
Good luck at your ball game today, Peter! I look forward to hearing all about it in person! 🙂
With much love and endless prayers~
    Jenni and family

  19. Hey Pete-man! Congrats on finishing round one of your treatment! It wasn’t that long ago that we were all congratulating you on round one of chemo, look at how far you’ve come! Hope you’re enjoying some time with your sisters! Stay strong, buddy, we’re all so proud of you! Love and prayers, Maggie

  20. Hey Pete, and family!

Just popped on here after reading that great article in the paper, you all looked great, and it sounds like you’re all still feeling strong and pluggin along. I don’t know how you do it! Loved the quote from Pete at the end, such a brave boy. Erika and Ty you must be sooo proud of your little guy! ((hugs)) to you all!!

Peter, if you’re in soccer this fall, we just might see you out on the field! My 4 year old Logan, and my 6 year old Austin both want to play this year too. Take care guys, my thoughts and well wishes are with you!

  21. Good Morning Peter – Wow – it sure was a surprise seeing you yesterday at Jenni’s!!! You are looking just as handsome as ever Buddy!!! Too bad about the blue hair, though!

Ty and Erika – gosh, he looks so great!!! He informed me he must not have wished hard enough – that’s why his hair didn’t grow back blue! What a doll! Jen shared your feelings about the NY trip – you are so in our thoughts! Soon…. hopefully VERY soon, it will be all memories. The girls, too, are such little angels. Kate looks so very much like Peter, but talking with her nuk in mouth is an absolute remembrance of Ellie!!!

You are always in thought and prayer – keep up the tremendous strength! As always, we are here.

    Peg and Ron
