Day 49 and counting

I can’t believe we’re only half way to 100 days! It seems like Peter’s transplant was so long ago! He is doing well. He did get out of the hospital Sunday and we had lots of fun on Ellie’s birthday. The beautiful weather has played a big part in our fun this week.
I feel that things are starting to get busier again. Ty took Peter to the clinic this morning and his labs were good – getting higher. They let us stop the TPN (iv food) which is great because it’s a bit of a process each night and it’s a pain for him to tote around when he’s awake.
Apparently they are scheduling scans for Peter tomorrow and Thursday (CT and MIBG I believe). This immediately put a knot in my stomach but it’s great that we’re getting to where he will need periodic testing to see if there is anything going on. We believe that we will have even more to celebrate than birthdays on Friday evening! He will have his labs/counts checked again on Friday and barring any changes, he is scheduled to start radiation on Monday! Radiation will be daily, M-F, for 3 weeks. Within a few weeks we should also be able to find out if Peter will be able to get antibody treatment at the U of MN or if we will be travelling back and forth to NY. So after writing this, I guess the combination of these things is why i’m feeling a little anxious – just a lot of things going on at once!
In the meantime Peter and Ellie are enjoying lots of fun in the sun wearing loads of sunscreen!

  3. Hey there “BIG-GUY-WHO-IS-ALMOST-FIVE” 🙂 Can you believe that you are almost one whole hand’s worth of fingers?? High five on that!! (ha-ha!!…. get it? high FIVE?) Ok, so maybe I am not as much of a comedian as you are!! 🙂 Anyway – I am so thrilled to read about how well you are doing. I always knew in my heart that you were an amazing kid, but reading it in black & white always makes me get the chills!! You have been so brave and so courageous through out this 8+ month battle. You just keep on keepin’ on and I expect to have you back for some fun in the sun at daycare later this summer??
    Miss you, sweet Peter!

  4. Hi Peter-

Glad to hear you have been able to enjoy the nice sunshine outside. We just learned about a little boy that also has the same ucky thing that you have. His name is name is Logan Fogarty and he will be one year old this month. He lives near Pequot Lakes and has to go to the same hospital that you go to so he can get better, just like you. It sounds like he spends a lot of time on the 8th floor of your hospital. If you bump into Logan, who has a nickname of “little cowboy” (his parents are Ryan and Megan) maybe you could give him a high five or talk to him about the Twins or anything else that guys like to talk about. You are such a champ. We know he would like to play with you, even though he is only one. Keep getting stronger and better. Jim, Laleen and Jared Goerges
    P. S. Have a very, very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  9. Hi Peter…. I was just reading your entries and wanted to let you know that I am SOOOO excited that you are the honorary youth chairperson for this year’s relay for life. I used to do the relay for “Team Target” years ago when I worked there. It is alot of fun & obviously for a great cause. I would love to do it again this year in honor of you!!!!!! Maybe we could start a “Daycare Team”! 🙂 I would love more information regarding this year’s event!

  11. Good Morning Big Guy – and a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! Have lots of fun today on your special day!!! Wow – I can’t believe you’re 5 years old already!! I remember first seeing you at Jenni’s – I think you were about 16 or 18 months old is all?!!! Your were an absolute little dolly then as you are now – such sparkle in those fabulous eyes of yours!!
Hope you’re feeling good – and enjoy the weekend, too. (sounds like rain back here, but we sure need it!!)

    Thinking of you all!

  12. Ah, bummer! Looks like Papa & Monga Allord beat me to it! Darn her! I was hoping to be the first one to wish you a happy birthday!! Well, it’s officially here…. MAY 4th, 2007 – your 5th birthday!!!! YEAH!!! I, too, remember when I first met you at 16 months old… you were an absolute doll! Incredibly smart (clearly speaking “nice to meet you” at 16 months old!!), incredibly adorable and incredibly special. Even at the ripe ol’ age of 5, you are still a doll, still smart, still adorable and still awfully special! I imagine you and Ellie will have quite the celebration tonight! What kind of cake are you having? (Lily’s birthday is in May, too…. whenver we ask her what kind of cake she wants, she says “green cake”…. hmmm….)
I will be thinking of you all day today and sending many, many happy birthday thoughts to you! I hope you have a truly wonderful day…
With much love, lots of birthday hugs-n-kisses, and lots of prayers!
Jenni, Ryan, Emily, Lily & Parker

  13. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Peter!!! Keep up the fight!! enjoy the sun!! And cheer on those Twins!! They need your help!!!!

    Take care!!

  14. Hi Peter,
Well it appears that everyone is standing in line to wish you a happy birthday! We sure hope you have a great one! Now that you are 5 years old, you are just that much bigger and stronger, and can surely take the path thing down. We’re always cheering for you.

Rich and I teach Sunday school at our church, and each month we have a new virtue that we teach the kids. This past month the virtue has been HOPE. HOPE is believing that something good can come from something bad. I think there is so much truth to that! Your example has brought so much “good” to all of us who are following your journey. You have made quite an impact on everyone young man, and that will never be forgotten. Have a fantastic birthday, keep up the good fight, and always remember HOPE!

    Sincerely,
Amy, Rich, Jake, Callie & Kira

  15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER!

Wow Mr. Five Year Old. How does it feel to be five? Does it feel different than four. One thing is for sure! You are always the same cool kid, champ of champs, amazingly strong, super duper awesome trooper whether you’re four, five, or a hundred and three. Have a great day Peter! You and Ellie enjoy your parties.
