A note about this site

Over the past month, more and more automated spam programs have crawled onto this site and they post comments. I’ve tried to stay ahead of them and have placed spam traps behind the comments functionality. The filters have been effective in catching over 100 spam comments per day, but have also filtered out a handful of good messages over the past two weeks.

So if you posted a comment in the past and didn’t see it, that comment should show up now. I have de-spammed the good messages (or something like that!). I’ll keep an eye on the queue and try to make things smarter. Sorry for the problems. The heartless spam people make things difficult.

Keep the comments coming and have a good weekend!

  2. Hello Eigner Heros!

This is Vicki, Eli’s mom. It was nice to meet you a couple of weeks ago!
You have all been in my thoughts and prayers, and I thought I would just check in and see how things are going.
Transplants are TOUGH, but it’s all going to work out. April 19th will be Eli’s one year anniversary from when we checked into the hospital for his. Neuroblastoma has nothing on our boys! Kids are so resilient!
If there is ANYTHING I can do, please don’t hesitate to call or email!

  6. Hey, Pete, it’s been a while. I talked to your father the other day and he said you are ready to take on another big challenge. You have my heartfelt prayers. While you experience some delays in healing over all this, we all know you are the one who will win out in the end. I like that no quit attitude of yours.

Most all young players have experienced delays in life. You have proven that young people need to work hard and have patience. There are so many delays in life. Careers and lives get put on hold for various reasons. Yours is obvius, Pete. Decisions on scholarships and promotions get delayed. Character, thinking big and perseverance will define who wins out in the end. The bottom line is character, composure, confidence, competitiveness, focus, perseverance, courage, training, talent and performance will determine the future. Working through the “delays” in life with “critical moment” performances are no doubt the biggest challenges any person encounters.

The poet, Langston Hughes asks that pointed question about society, but it could well be about your career in hockey.

What happens to a dream deferred?
    Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
    Or fester like a sore-
    And then run?

    My prediction is,

“Dreams do come true for those who apply all their intangibles with a dose of determination.” That is what you have done and are doing, Pete.

Players with special qualities, qualities that others find difficult to measure, find a way to realize their dreams. Every athlete I know runs in to these obstacles in one shape or another throughout their careers but they find a way to overcome.

We can provide all the training in the world and it still comes down to personality and caring about others. The ability to maintain a “Chip on your shoulder, no respect or walk on”, mentality is paramount to developing the soul of a champion. Do all this and it still comes down to your psychological mind set. Hard work provides what no drug or gimmick will give you; the psychological advantage over your opponent.

We leave each young player with the following advice:

“When you have the composure to compete under pressure, and are focused, you begin to build the make up of a real winner. When you add in the class, character and charisma that give you an attitude and a swagger you are further along in the process. Study a winning team and you will see all those characteristics.”

While gifted athletes are rare, there are players who have assets or a gift in certain areas that make them a talent in their own way. These talents allow them to impact their teammates and the team. Players emulate players with a talent. If each player over achieves in their asset categories, you will have a team improving in every category.

Our goal is to develop a detail person, one who cares about others while pursuing their dreams and goals in life. We know no other way than the way described. Exposure camps are a real life experience athletes will encounter many times in their lives. This is an opportunity to go beyond their job description. People lacking energy or desire to go beyond their job description will fail in their effort to maximize their full potential in both hockey and real life. We were not put on this earth to be mediocre or average. We will continue to remind athletes that we were created to go beyond our job description and be a cut above. If we want to live a rewarding life, aim for excellence, do more than is required and help others in the process. This creates an enthusiasm for life and guarantees peace of mind and happiness.

This is the philosophy @ our camp. Believe me when I say this is exciting to watch unfold after all these years in the Brainerd Lakes Area. It gets a little old when athletes are satisfied to be “pretty good” when you know they can be much more. We have enough experience to recognize assets in young people. This gives us some degree of predictability when it comes time to push athletes to what we believe they can be. Success is just around the corner for so many athletes that we’ve worked with. They have to be willing to go around the corner and get it.

Our goal is to play a significant role in young peoples’ lives through our friendship, guidance, teaching, development program, uniqueness and unbiased beliefs to a point where they can never repay us. We are not looking for some kind of payback.

Our wish is young people reciprocate by reaching out and helping someone else because someone took the time to help them help themselves. We need to educate young people that giving back is important. The sooner they learn the bigger return they will get out of life.

Thinking of you always, Pete, even when it appears that I’ve gone away, so I’ve made this message a little long to make up for all the missed days.

  7. PETE MAN, I hope your not still mad becuase I kicked your little smelly butt in hungry hungry hippo. Maybe next time you will know to choose Homer Hippo instead of Harry Hippo. Everybody knows that homer used to play hockey for the Edmonton Oilers alongside the great one and he knows how to be hungry around the net. I am looking forward to some I spy when I get back from my trip. I am going to Mexico with aunt Melissa and we are going to buy you a big sombrero the size of round lake. Be good and I will see you soon, Love Uncle Tito
