NY Update

Hello All,

As Uncle Matt stated in his post, we now have a plan.  Peter will have a needle biopsy done Friday morning at 8am.  This is good news being that a needle biopsy is much easier on Peter than the other option.  We pray that they are able to get enough tissue to clarify what it is we are dealing with.

As for yesterday, it was a long day of waiting.  Peter had a blast in the playroom at the clinic and in the playroom at the Ronald McDonald House.  Erika and I mainly sat back and watched him.  He played with many different kids of varying ages.  He treats them all as if they are his lifelong friends.  It is really neat to watch.  He shot baskets, played knee hockey, video games, board games, checkers and was truly enjoying himself.  Erika and I were trying to see if there was anything he really wanted to do, and his response was always “go to the playroom”.

For those of you that have not been to Memorial Sloan Kettering, it is quite the place.  You are there with people from all over the world who’s children are being treated for various types of this awful disease.  I often catch myself watching how all these people interact.  It is definately an interesting sight.  Then I am always drawn back to Peter, he is so polite and kind to everyone he comes in contact with, Erika and I are so proud of him.

As for Friday, we continue to pray that Peter was healed two years ago and these spots are something other than Neuroblastoma.  It is very difficult to sit and wait, but we draw strength from Peter, from God and from all of you.  This is another test for our family and I am confident that with the grace of God and all your  prayers and support we will pass with flying colors.  We can never thank all of you enough and will never take for granted how fortunate we are to have so many people to help us through this.  We are also so blessed that Ellie and Kate are in such good hands with family and friends back home.  Thanks to all of you who have offered to give us a hand with the two of them.  We miss them a ton, but are comforted by the fact they are doing so well.

God Bless,

Ty, Erika and Peter

  1. Hi, this is Tiffany, Wyatt’s Mom…Wyatt had the pleasure of spending the day with Peter last Sunday and can’t stop talking about him. I consider Wyatt to have a “cat” personality, which means he is quite selective about the friends he truly cares to spend time with. He is asking regularly when Peter is coming back to Crosslake. It can never hurt to have too many friends and too many prayers, so just wanted you to know another has been added to your (already extensive) list!

  2. Hello Eigners,

The news spread quickly at the ballfields last night. It is playoff time for Baxter/Nisswa Baseball. We are deeply saddened at the news, yet praying very hard that the tests will reveal the very best scenario! Tanner asks on occassion (usually as we drive by the Civic Center) how Peter is doing, and we are always excited to tell him “Extremely Well”!

We hope you can feel strength from your extended Brainerd Area Family, you are all in our prayers and we wish to see everyone happy and healthy very soon!

    God Bless you Peter!

  3. Ty and Erica, Thanks for the updates on Peter. My fingers and toes are crossed and lots of prayers and thoughts are headed your way. I can’t imagine what you must be going through. I can only hope that this will be nothing and Peter will grow to be a wonderful, caring, loving and productive adult with no more of these set backs. He sounds like a fantastic kid! Give him a hug from me even though I’ve never met him and I’m sure you don’t remember me.

  12. The wonderful thing about community, whether it’s a geographic location, CaringBridge, shared experience, is that we can stay in touch with and learn about each other. I’d not checked Peter’s website for awhile and so came back after reading Mary Catherine V.’s CaringBridge note re Peter’s additional tests. I send you support, prayers, blessings and love that all goes easily and well. How wonderful to read about Peter and his kindness and courtesy. Take good care. Claudia

  17. Hello Eigners

I sit here each day and read about Peter and my heart goes out to your family. He is such a fighter and he learned that from his parents, you are a hero to him, just like he is a hero to so many of us

I have never been a real religious person, but God is still in the forefront of my life and I have learned through my journey in life that he does care and he does listen and he does answer prayers.

Love, prayer, family, and friends are what will get Peter through these hard times, as they have in the past. I am a firm believer that God will never give you more than you can handle. I learned this when my sister was diagnosed with cancer twice. She and my family kept the prayers flowing and the hope and the love, and she has now survived cancer both times. It was some of the most trying times one can have and makes you reflect on your beliefs and faith. Peter is a fighter; he is a strong little man with a heart of gold. He accepts things for what they are and deals with them. This, to me, is a hero.

Your son is such a true inspiration in the lives of so many and many of us have never met him. He is the poster child for strength, love, and faith. Please know that we are out here fighting for Peter. We are praying and sending good thoughts his way. We all know he is a fighter and will pull through with flying colors.

    Please remember: PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED!!!!

  18. We know that the biopsy was today and are praying for good news. It is great to hear that Peter has so much to do at the playroom. We can just see him enjoying himself even though so much is going on. What an incredible kid! You are constantly in our thoughts. Take care…
Love, Lee, Kathy, Garrett, and Wyatt Smith
